Grade 7 students participated in a basic online computer programming activity called “Hour of Code” held online via Microsoft Teams, Dec. 5.

Hour of Code is organized by APEC Schools and Accenture to empower students in every school worldwide to learn to code and instill interest and awareness among the youth today towards exploring a career in technology. The activity teaches students the following skills: Problem-solving; Creativity; Critical thinking; and Resilience.
The activity used Minecraft: Education Edition as the platform to help students learn to code. There were two modes: the “Tiger time” wherein students worked solo or individually on the coding code; and “Lion time” wherein the mentor instructs students to discuss their progress and questions together as a group.
Students had fun because they played Minecraft while doing the hands-on activities and when they finished all the levels by entering the correct set of codes, they received a Certificate of Completion. #
